How organic farming is done?
There are certain aspects about organic farming that differentiate it from normal farming methods. One of it is that there are no pesticides and fertilizers used in the methods. The farmer needs to work in harmony with nature since careful management of the soil; the seeds and the weeds play an important role in this method of agriculture.
One of the first things that the organic farmer does is to lay a solid foundation. He makes sure that his soil is moist but well drained. He measures the pH content in the soil constantly since the right pH measure is essential for the growing of the crops. The farmer works hard at maintaining the right temperature, providing rich organic matter to the farm area and making sure that the soil is always nutrient rich. Good farmers realise that these methods are not so much a rigid set of guidelines that need to be followed, but rather a process; a process that will vary based on the crop being grown, on the vegetables being cultivated or the fruits being developed.
The farmer always keeps a lookout for dark blue or dark green soil since it is an indication of poor water drainage. If the water drainage is poor and the soil is very dark, then it might emanate a foul odour. Many farmers do a soil analysis to judge what the pH levels for their soil should be and how to improve it, if it is very bad. It might be important to add limestone if the levels are not adequate. The farmer also tries to control the weeds through natural methods and makes sure that pests and insects do not spoil the crops. Tilling is also done in the right quantities since excessive tilling could destroy the organic matter in the soil.
